Fusion Studio Works Studio Desks for large 72 and 88 note keyboards may suit composers and musicians whom spend considerable hours operating a DAW and require ready access to a large, flagship keyboard.
The key design feature is the instrument resides on a recessed shelf which is set back approximately 200mm from the seated position. The resulting experience is as follows:
1. The keyboard feels like it is 'built-in' to the desk.
2. The vast bulk of the instrument is invisible from above the desk.
3. There is more vertical space above for extra equipment shelves.
We've developed this design concept over many years by listening to our customers and their feedback regarding their experiences with pull-out keyboard trays for larger keyboards. Here's a summary of what they've almost all unanimously reported:
It turns out, if you place a keyboard, synth or MIDI controller instrument which is over about 130mm in height on a slide-out keyboard tray, it's likely over a lengthy session you will find the seated position at the desk uncomfortable. The reason is the keyboard and tray occupy too much vertical space in the area for your chair and knees. The ergonomics don't seem to feel right and you may experience the following:
1. You've lowered your chair to allow your legs to clear the under side of the pull-out tray and you feel like you're sitting very close to the floor.
2. When the keyboard is not in use and is stowed under the desktop, you feel like you're reaching upwards to the desktop to find the computer keyboard and mouse. Long hours with your arm raised in this unnaturally high position may begin to cause aches and pains.
