In this section we will explore how to determine if your keyboard instrument will fit on the slide-out tray of a studio desk

Obtain accurate dimensions of your keyboard

The best way is to physically measure
your keyboard. Beware when obtaining dimensional information on the internet as sometimes it is not clear whether items such as knobs, dials, sliders or rubber feet are included in the figure given for the height. In some cases, it can even be the packaging dimensions given!

Cable Clearance
Check if there's enough space at the rear of the keyboard to connect cables so they won't interfere with the structure of the desk when the keyboard tray is stowed.

Don't Forget to Future Proof

If you're planning on upgrading your instrument at some point, will your new keyboard also fit on the tray?

The aim is to minimize the gap between your keyboard and the underside of the studio desk. This will allow the maximum possible knee clearance under the keyboard tray.
